Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose (7-6-1-1) returned to the MTS Centre for the first time since Nov. 5 to host the Iowa Wild (7-10-0-1). The Moose had a pair of early scoring chances, but couldn't find the twine. Jimmy Lodge waited out Alex Stalock in the Iowa net, but his stick was checked before he could open the scoring. Jack Roslovic followed up with a breakaway opportunity, but Stalock closed the five hold to turn away the Moose rookie. Both teams enjoyed a powerplay opportunity in the first, but couldn't break through as Eric Comrie made nine saves and Stalock faced 14 Moose attempts. The second period ended as another scoreless frame. Comrie had a big hand in that as the Moose goaltender made 20 saves in the period. Those included a dazzling pair of stops midway through. The Manitoba penalty kill also came up with a pair of holds, turning back the Wild powerplay. Kale Kessy and Hunter Warner left an exclamation point on the period, dropping the gloves in a spirited bout. The third period saw the Moose cut down on Iowa's chances, only allowing four shots in the period. Meanwhile, Manitoba put eight attempts on Stalock. The hosts nearly broke the scoreless tie in the final minutes, but a scramble in front of the Iowa net saw the puck bounce harmlessly off the post. With 60 minutes not enough, the game rolled along into overtime. Eric Comrie came up with a glove save early to keep the contest going. The extra period came to an end at the 1:26 mark off an odd-man rush for the Wild. Teemu Pulkkinen kept on a partial two-on-oh and blistered a shot to the back of the net for the 1-0 Iowa win. I think the first ten minutes were good, though. We obviously didn't get the result we wanted, but working hard tomorrow and tonight to recover to get the win tomorrow." Head Coach Pascal Vincent - "I thought we came out pretty good for a team that's coming back after a very long road trip, and after all the stories that we know. It was the first period that I was expecting to be more difficult, but it was the second the guys were struggling a little bit energy-wise, and then the third we emptied the tank."
