Blue Jackets Recall Markus Hannikainen

CLEVELAND - The AHL's defending Calder Cup Champions, the Cleveland Monsters, proudly powered by Constellation, announced Wednesday that the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets recalled left wing Markus Hannikainen for the third time this season. An undrafted native of Helsinki, Finland, Hannikainen signed with Columbus as a free agent on April 20, 2015 and has 5-3-8 with four penalty minutes and a -3 rating to his credit in 14 appearances for the Monsters this season.

A 6'2", 189 lb. left-handed shooter, Hannikainen, 23, made his NHL debut for the Blue Jackets last year, posting a -2 rating in four appearances while also notching 50 regular-season appearances for the Monsters, supplying 7-13-20 with 20 penalty minutes and a +6 rating. In 16 postseason appearances, Hannikainen contributed 3-7-10 with two penalty minutes and a +12 rating, helping Cleveland claim the 2016 Calder Cup as AHL Champions. Prior to the 2016-17 campaign, Hannikainen was named as one of the Monsters' four assistant captains by Cleveland Head Coach John Madden.
