Colorado Mammoth News Release
Denver, Colo. â The Colorado Mammoth will be well-represented when the NLL All-Star Game is played at Pepsi Center later this month with three of the six Western Division starters â Mammoth forwards Gary Gait and Gavin Prout, and goalie Gee Nash â representing Colorado.
Prout leads the league in every major offensive category, with 20 goals, 25 assists and 45 points through seven games this season. He also ranks second with 57 loose balls.
Gait, the NLL's all-time leading scorer and reigning MVP, is second to Prout in every major offensive category this season. The Mammoth captain has 18 goals and 20 assists for 38 points in seven games.
Nash has gone 4-2 as the Colorado starter this season, posting an 11.3 goals against average and making 219 saves for a .782 saves percentage.
The Mammoth is 5-2 â the best record in the NLL â and holds a half-game lead over San Jose and Calgary in the Western Division standings. By virtue of his team's standing, Mammoth coach Jamie Batley will coach the Western Division All-Star team. Batley is 10-4 since he became the Colorado coach midway through last season. Calgary coach Chris Hall will be Batley's assistant at the game.
The All-Star starters were selected by fans, media, and team general mangers and coaches. Fan balloting, media selections and the coach/GM selections each accounted for one third of the total.
Other Western Division starters are Calgary forward Tracey Kelusky, Vancouver defenseman Andy Ogilvie and San Jose defenseman Jim Moss.
Starting forwards for the Eastern Division are Colin Doyle and Blaine Manning of Toronto and John Tavares of Buffalo. Defensemen Mike Hassen of Rochester and Pat Coyle of Toronto join goaltender Pat O'Toole of Rochester in the starting lineup. Coach Darris Kilgour of the Eastern Division-leading Buffalo Bandits (4-2) will coach the East All-Stars. Rochester's Paul Day will be the assistant.
The All-Star coaching staffs will select the reserves and the full rosters will be announced later this week.
The 2004 NLL All-Star Game will be played at 4 p.m. on Feb. 22 at Pepsi Center, home of the Colorado Mammoth. The game will be preceded by the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse showdown between the University of Colorado and Colorado State at 11: 30 a.m., and the All-Star Skills Competition at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Pepsi Center box office and all Ticketmaster outlets.
