Maloney's Moonshot Moves Indians Past Dust Devils 4-1
July 18, 2012 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release
Spokane, WA -The Indians had been piling up hits all night long against the Dust Devils, but had only a single run to show for it, as they were 0-11 with runners in scoring position heading into the eighth inning. It looked like Spokane was headed for a repeat of the night before, but catcher Joe Maloney decided to change that with one mighty swing of his bat.
The former Limestone College star crushed a three-run home run off Tri-City reliever Michael Wolford (0-1) deep into the Spokane night, sending the Indians past the Dust Devils 4-1 in front of 4,636 fans at Avista Stadium for Baseball Hat Giveaway presented by Pepsi, Arby's, and The Inlander.
Maloney's mash was one of thirteen Spokane hits on the night, including three from Christopher Garia and two each from Royce Bolinger and Saquan Johnson.
The Indians' offensive barrage supported another outstanding night from their resolute pitching staff. Spindly starter C.J. Edwards went four innings, striking out five and allowing just one run. Cody Kendall lowered his ERA to 1.04 with three scoreless frames of relief, and Alec Asher (1-1) continued to strike out opposing batters with abandon, picking up four punc h outs and the win in two innings.
