Last Week's Games
Wednesday, March 21st - Bloomington 2 at Quad City 4
The Mallards clinched a UHL Playoff spot while Don Parsons netted a historic goal on Wednesday night at The MARK in a 4-2 win over Bloomington. Parsons scored his 622nd career goal at 8:09 of the third period to tie him with Joe Mullen for first on the All-Time Professional Goal Scoring List amongst American-born players. The win also clinched a 12th consecutive UHL post-season berth for the Mallards. In the first, Quad City took a 1-0 lead on Brett Pilkington's 25th tally of the year. Bloomington evened the game ten minutes later when Alex Goupil converted on a goal mouth scramble to tie the game at one. The Mallards took control of the contest with a pair of late second period goals as Derek Miller scored on the power play before Luke Stauffacher netted his 37th goal of the year at even strength. After a scoreless second, Parsons recorded his historic tally in the third to give Quad City a 4-1 lead. Brad Thompson scored for Bloomington just two minutes later, but the PrairieThunder could pull no closer as the Mallards improved to 32-26-9 on the season.
Friday, March 23rd - Quad City 7 at Fort Wayne 6 Shootout
The Mallards engaged in another high scoring affair before earning a 7-6 shootout win over Fort Wayne on Friday night at the Memorial Coliseum. Chad Woollard and Dale Lupul each scored twice in the win. The Komets controlled the opening five minutes of play before Andrew Lackner scored just as a Komets power play ended at 4:49 of the first. The Lackner goal awoke the Mallards offense as Quad City stormed back to net two power-play goals before the opening frame ended. Justin Chwedoruk started the Mallards scoring with his 23rd goal of the year, on a power play, at 14:51 of the first. Chad Woollard followed with his 30th goal of the year with two minutes left in the first. During a wild second period, the teams combined for six goals including four power-play tallies. The Komets scored the first two goals of the second as Matt Syroczynski and Mario Larocque scored during a five-minute Komet power play. With the Komets leading 3-2, the Mallards reeled off three goals to re-take the lead at 5-3. Patrick Nadeau began the Mallards run with his 12th goal of the season. Nadeau went on to assist on the next two tallies as Dale Lupul netted a pair of power-play goals to give Quad City a two-goal lead. Lupul's 19th goal of the season came at 13:52 of the middle frame followed by his 20th of the year at 16:14 of the second. The Komets capped the period's scoring when Andrew Lackner scored on a point shot to set the score at 5-4 after two periods. In the third period, the Komets sandwiched a pair of J.C. Ruid goals around Chad Woollard's 32nd goal of the year to force a shootout. Ruid netted his first goal of the night at 8:09 of the third to tie the game at five. The Mallards reclaimed the lead when Sean Starke hit Chad Woollard on a goalmouth feed for Woollard's second goal of the night and 32nd of the year. Woollard's goal put Quad City up 6-5 before Ruid scored a controversial goal to send the game to extra frames tied at six. In the shootout, Dale Lupul and Patrick Nadeau scored for Quad City while Jason Tapp stopped four of the five shooters he faced to earn the victory.
Saturday, March 24th - Quad City 2 at Flint 5
The Flint Generals beat the Mallards for the first time this year by a final of 5-2 on Saturday night at Perani Arena. Don Parsons netted a goal in the final minute of play to move past Joe Mullen and into first on the All-Time American-born Goal Scoring List in Professional Hockey. The teams traded power-play goals in the opening frame. Mike Kinnie scored on the man advantage for Flint at 5:04 of the first to put the Generals up 1-0. Quad City's Dale Lupul responded with his 21st goal of the year, and his third in two nights, during a 5-on-3 Quad City power play. Lupul's tallied tied the game at one and the score held up into the first intermission. The Generals seized control of the game with a pair of second period power-play goals by defenseman Tyson Turgeon and a shorthanded tally by Jason Selleke. Turgeon's fifth and sixth goals of the year came at 1:30 and 9:07 of the second period. Selleke's shorthanded tally staked Flint to a 4-1 lead with just 5:38 remaining in the middle frame. The Generals extended their lead to 5-1 when Jason Selleke tipped home a Gerard Miller point shot during a Flint power play. In the game's final minute, Don Parsons netted his historic 623rd career goal. The goal gives Parsons sole possession of first on the All-Time Goal Scoring List amongst American-born players in Professional Hockey. Unfortunately for Parsons and the Mallards, the team could pull no closer and lost by a final of 5-2.
