UHL names players of the week

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Fort Wayne Komets center J.C. Ruid has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Chicago Hounds goaltender Marty Magers has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 25th, 2007.

Ruid completed the week with seven points (3g, 4a), four penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating in three games played. He opened the week with two goals and a power play assist in a 7-6 shootout loss to the Quad City Mallards on Friday. On Sunday, he tallied his 40th goal of the season and added three assists, all on the power play, in a 6-2 win over the Hounds. It is the third weekly honor of the season for the 32-year-old native of Ballston Spa, New York. He leads the Komets in scoring and ranks second in the UHL with 88 points in 69 games played. Ruid ranks third in the league with 40 goals, and his 48 assists rank fourth. In addition, he leads the UHL in shootout goals (eight) and is tied for fifth with seven game-winning goals.

Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington defenseman Jarad Bourassa, Chicago forward Todd Grant, Elmira center Glenn Detulleo, Flint right wing Mike Kinnie, Kalamazoo center Kory Karlander, Muskegon right wing Kevin Cooper, Port Huron defenseman Philip Angell, Quad City forward Chad Woollard and Rockford defenseman Matt Gens.

Magers finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, a 1.50 goals against average (GAA) and a .971 save percentage (.SPCT). Recording back-to-back wins last week, he stopped 52-of-54 shots to defeat the Port Huron Flags 3-2 on Friday. The following night, he made 49 saves while holding the Rockford IceHogs to one goal in a 3-1 win. It is the first weekly honor for the 24-year-old native of Omaha, Nebraska. Since returning from an injury earlier this month, he has a 3-1-0 record, a 2.75 GAA and a .933 SPCT in his first four starts. For the season, Magers ranks fourth in the UHL in saves (1,418) and seventh in both wins (18) and save percentage (.910).

Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week include: Elmira's Zach Sikich, Flint's Bryan Worosz, Fort Wayne's Kevin St. Pierre, Kalamazoo's Tom Askey, Muskegon's Clayton Pool, Port Huron's Noah Ruden, Quad City's Jason Tapp and Rockford's Frederic Cloutier.
