QUACK TRACKS

Back-to-Back

The Mallards swept a two-game set from the Blaze in Bloomington last weekend. The Mallards scored six times in each of last weekend's victories after scoring just once in their prior outing, a season-opening loss to Rapid City on October 22. This marks the first time the Flock has scored at least six goals in consecutive games since the franchise's re-launch two years ago.

Player of the Week

Mallards center Eric Giosa was named Oakley CHL Player of the Week today after scoring three goals- including a pair of game winners- and adding an assist while posting a plus/minus rating of +4 in the Mallards' two victories last weekend. Giosa scored to end last Friday's contest at 2:59 of overtime and scored twice in the first period the following evening.

Shooting Gallery

The Mallards hurled a league single-game season high 58 shots at the Bloomington net last Friday. The Flock set another CHL season high Friday night by taking 23 shots in the second period alone. The Mallards pumped 41 more shots at the Blaze cage the following evening to lift their total for the weekend to 99 shots.

200

John Snowden last Friday night scored his two hundredth career goal- and his second of the night- with 4:35 left in the third period to tie the game at five. To perhaps make the moment even sweeter, Snowden reached the milestone against the team for whom he played for one full season and part of another before signing with the Mallards this summer. Snowden reached the double century mark in his five hundred sixty-ninth career game.

Triple Threat

The line of Giosa (3-1-4), Snowden (2-2-4) and rookie Mickey Lang (1-2-3) combined for six goals and 11 points over last weekend's two games.

Rapid Fire

Giosa and Brandon Marino- who is tied with Giosa for the team lead in goals (3) and points (4) after enjoying a four-point weekend of his own- scored within 23 seconds of each other last Friday night. Giosa found the net 53 seconds into the game and Marino followed up with the second Mallard goal at the 1:16 mark. Those two goals are the fastest pair scored by the Mallards on the young season.

For Whom the Bell Tolls

Mallards coach David Bell last Friday earned his first career head coaching win. Bell spent seven years as an assistant coach before taking over the Mallards' reins this season. He waited just over 24 hours to secure his second win.

Brad's Big Weekend:

Rookie goaltender Brad Fogal missed out on the Mallards' dramatic victory in Bloomington last Friday night for good reason: he was called up to the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs Friday afternoon and served as the back up in the IceHogs' 6-4 win over the Rivermen in Peoria Friday evening. He was then back to the Flock in plenty of time to make 36 saves and earn the win Saturday night in his professional debut as the Mallards completed their sweep of the weekend. On top of all that, Fogal also picked up his first career assist last Saturday night on Lang's third period goal.

Firsts: Friday

Rookie Jeremy Boyer made his professional debut last Friday after being scratched in the Mallards' season opener. Rookie Lang recorded his first career assist on Snowden's first goal of the night in the first period last Friday. Lang went on to add a second assist on Snowden's third period equalizer. Rookie Sean Flanagan recorded his first career point- an assist- in the first period and then scored his first pro goal in the third period. Justin Chwedoruk's third period assist was the first point of his second tour with the Mallards. Chwedoruk first skated for the Flock in 2006-07. David McKee made 25 saves last Friday on the way to his first win as a Mallard.

Firsts: Saturday Lang scored his first career goal in the third period of last Saturday's win. Defenseman Karl Linden made his professional debut last Saturday after arriving from Sweden last Thursday.

Four in Three

Defenseman Jared Lavender has notched four assists in the first three games of the season. Lavender and Jared Brown (1-2-3) are the only Mallards who have recorded points in each of the Flock's first three outings.

Powering Up

Marino and Chwedoruk scored on the final two Quad City power plays of last Saturday's game to emphatically halt the Mallards' season-opening run of eight power plays without a goal. A third period man advantage goal from former Mallard Travis Granbois Saturday night was the first allowed this season by the Flock, who began the campaign with five straight successful penalty kills.

Turner Time The Mallards take on foes from within the Turner Conference in each of their first six games and 12 of their first 14.

On the Road Again

The Mallards are in the midst of a stretch that will see them play six of seven games on the road. Saturday's visit to Dayton is the first of four straight road tilts for Quad City.

Ins and Outs

Linden's arrival last Thursday coincided with the waiving of defenseman Jeff Moor...After Fogal's call up last Friday to Rockford of the AHL, Bloomington-area resident Bryan Wright served as the Flock's backup goalie in Quad City's win last Friday night. Wright departed with Fogal's return the following day.

We Meet Again

The Mallards this weekend will get their first look of the season at both Dayton and Fort Wayne. Last year's Mallards-Gems 10-game season series ended deadlocked at five wins apiece. The Flock went 6-4-0 against the Komets last season. The Mallards last season posted a 3-3-0 record in Fort Wayne and a 2-4-0 mark on the road against Dayton.
