
Komets Chip IceMen Saturday 4-3 in Shootout; Rapid City Visits Friday, Quad City Sunday

Fort Wayne, IN -- The Komets earned their first two points of the season in their second appearance (1-1-0) with a 4-3 shootout win over the visiting Evansville IceMen Saturday night at the Memorial Coliseum.
7,417 Fort Wayne fans witnessed the Komets chip the IceMen in the extra session 3-2 in 11 rounds for the win. The 11 rounds set a Fort Wayne CHL record for number of rounds in a shootout. Fort Wayne's overall record is 14 shootout rounds set while in the IHL Dec. 29, 2008 against the Kalamazoo Wings on Coliseum ice.
Special K's-- In the only game of the week the Komets stopped all three Evansville power play opportunities while scoring on two of six man advantages Saturday night. The Komets rank fourth on the penalty kill after two games with an 83.3% penalty kill rating.
Komets of the week-- Left wing Artem Podshendyalov netted two goals in Fort Wayne's 4-3 shootout win Saturday, including the game winner after 11 straight shooters failed in the shootout.
Nick Boucher stopped 24 of 27 shots in regulation and then after allowing a pair in the shootout, made nine straight shootout saves for the win, his 98th as a Komet. It was Boucher's first win of the season in two appearances.
Center Brent Smith contributed to the Komets' win Saturday netting his first two goals of the season against Evansville in his 399th pro game.
Right wing Bobby Chaumont and veteran left wing Jesse Bennefield each contributed a pair of assists in the Komets' win over the IceMen Saturday night.
GAMES THIS WEEK
Rapid City makes it's first appearance Friday -- The Komets get busy with three games in three nights this Friday when the Rapid City Rush visit for an 8pm faceoff. Fort Wayne was 0-2-0 in the two meetings last season with Rapid City. Friday's match will be the first of five meetings this season and the only visit by the Rush at the Memorial Coliseum. Division rival Rapid City is 3-0-1 in their four-game start, winning the last three games played after opening the season with a 3-2 shootout loss at Wichita.
MARATHON NIGHT -- Continuing this year, Friday nights will be Marathon Nights at Komet home games. Fans can take advantage of buy-one-get-one-free ticket offers for any of the 11 Friday night home games. Fill Up Cards are available at all participating Marathon stations.
This Friday night is the first of 11 Marathon Nights this season when the Komets host the Rapid City Rush at 8pm.
Komets help the IceMen initiate the new Ford Center at Evansville Saturday-- The Komets will travel to Evansville Saturday to face the IceMen in their home opener at 8:15pm (FW time) at the new Ford Center. The Komets have taken a split of the first two meetings of the season against the IceMen. Evansville will skate at Bloomington Friday before hosting the Komets Saturday.
BUS TRIP -- The Komets are sponsoring a bus trip to Evansville Saturday for the Komet game against the IceMen at 8:15pm. Cost is $65 per person which includes transportation and ticket to the game. The bus will depart from Komet Kuarters (in the Coliseum Shoppes) at 1pm and will return at approximately 4:30am. The bus will stop for dinner on the way to the game.

Mallards visit Sunday-- The Quad City Mallards visit for the first of five Fort Wayne Sunday matinees this season. It's the first of four Quad City City visits and the first of nine overall meetings this season. The Komets were an even 4-4-2 in 10 meetings against the Mallards last season. Quad City hosts Dayton Friday and then travels to Dayton Saturday before tripping to Fort Wayne Sunday. Sunday's Komet home game starts at 5pm, and by the way, don't forget to set your clocks back one hour this weekend as daylight saving time ends Sunday morning at 2:00.
VETERAN'S SPECIAL -- In honor of Veteran's Day next week, the Komets are offering any active or inactive veteran a free ticket (one per veteran) for this Sunday's home game against Quad City at 5pm.
This offer is good for one ticket in the upper arena, Pepsi zone and upper deck only, compliments of the Komets and Aunt Millie's Bakery.
Looking ahead-- After this weekend the Komets continue to be busy with the first of eight Tuesday night road games next week when they visit Hara Arena in Dayton election night, Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 6:30pm (start time is correct, 6:30pm). This Sunday's tilt against Quad City will be the last Komet home game until Friday, Nov. 18 as the Komets are on the road in Rapid City for a pair Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11 and 12.
INC Soundoff with the Komets Monday nights -- The Komets, along with Indiana's News Center and title sponsor PHP, present a new weekly televised sports program airing on Monday nights at 7:30 on WPTA TV 21 Alive. The show is televised live from Wrigley Field Bar and Grill each week throughout the 2011-12 season with INC's Tommy Schoegler as host. Komet players and personnel will serve as co-hosts during the half-hour program. The show will also feature highlights, interviews, call-ins and special segments. Tonight, Oct. 31, Komet brothers Dustin Molle and Bryant Molle will be special guests.
60th Anniversary Komet Hockey on WOWO -- The Komets and WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM have partnered once again for 2011-12. Broadcaster Bob Chase will call the action for his 59th consecutive season radio-rinkside. All games broadcast on radio, home and away, can be heard online at Xfinity KometCast. Most games will be broadcast on WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM with ESPN Radio AM 1380 as an alternative when scheduling conflicts occur.
