Back to Back

The Mallards dropped back-to-back games Saturday and Sunday after winning their prior two games.

Tight

After falling in Wichita yesterday, the Mallards are now three points behind the fifth place Thunder in the Turner Conference standings. The Thunder has two games in hand on the Flock. The Mallards and Thunder will meet for the final time Thursday. The Mallards, who are two points ahead of seventh place Dayton, will play three of their final four games against the Gems. Dayton has one game in hand on the Mallards.

Trifecta After losing to the Thunder yesterday, the Mallards are now 8-3-0 this season when playing the final game in a stretch of three games in three nights.

Comebacks The Mallards have come from behind in six of their last eight wins and in ten of their last 13 victories. On the season, the Mallards have trailed at some point in 18 of their 32 wins. In contrast, the Mallards lost each of their last two games after taking the lead in both contests.

Special Teams Quad City, which has not scored on its last 11 power plays, ranks eleventh in the league on the man advantage (16.8 percent). The Mallards rank third in penalty killing (84.3 percent).

Blanked Last Friday's shutout of Evansville was the Mallards' fifth of the season and goaltender David Brown's fourth. The Mallards rank second in the league in goals allowed (2.67 per game) even after allowing four goals in each of their last two outings.

Offensive The Mallards last Friday against Evansville scored five goals in a second consecutive game. That marked the first time the Flock has scored five times in consecutive games since it scored at least five in three tilts in a row between December 12 and December 18. On the season, the Mallards are tied for last in the league in goals per game (2.77).

Dynamic Duo Goaltender David Brown (17-15-1, 2.25, .932, 4 SO) yesterday backed up Adam Russo after playing in each of the Flock's prior seven games. Brown last Friday made 36 saves against Evansville on the way to his fourth shutout. Brown leads the league in save percentage, ranks second in goals against average and is now tied for second in shutouts. Russo (13-11-0, 2.81, .921, 1 SO) made 44 saves last night- the second most shots he has stopped in a game this season. He has now made better than 40 saves in a game four times this year. Russo ranks fourth in the league in save percentage.

Ins and Outs

Eric Giosa (upper body, effective February 27) and Tyler Kindle (upper body, effective February 26) remain on 30-day injured reserve.

Wichita

Yesterday's win over the Mallards enabled the Thunder to finish a stretch of three games in three nights with a record of 2-1-0 ...Wichita is 5-2-0 this month...The Thunder scores 3.7 goals per game- the second highest average in the league...Matt Robinson (37-31-68) ranks second in the league in goal scoring while Jesse Bennefield (33-38-71) is tied for eighth in goals...Andrew Martens (14-36-50) ranks second among defensemen in points and third among blue liners in goals...Marc-Antoine Gelinas (25-11-5, 2.85, .899, 4 SO) ranks second in wins and is tied for second in shutouts...Thursday's game is the fourth and final meeting between the Mallards and Thunder. Wichita has gone 3-0-0 against the Mallards.

Dayton The Gems defeated Evansville 5-4 in a shootout Saturday after going without a win in their prior three games (0-2-1)...Dayton ranks seventeenth in the league in goals per game (2.9)...The Gems are now without workhorse goaltender Jeff Jakaitis, who ranks second in the CHL in save percentage (.929), third in goals against average (2.58) and third in minutes played (2531:24), after Jakaitis earlier this month was called up to the American Hockey League's Portland Pirates...Mike Vaskivuo (26-31-57) is Dayton's top point scorer...Former Mallard forward Chris Lipsett (18-23-41) is in the midst of an 11-game point scoring streak (9-10-19)...The Mallards have gone 4-3-0 against Dayton this season.
