Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Madison,Wis.- The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (4-14) had their chances as they dropped a hard fought game to the Madison Mallards (11-6) by a score of 4-2. After scoring a combined total of 26 runs the previous two evenings, the Rafters' offense had trouble igniting on Friday night. Wisconsin Rapids was able to record seven hits, but were unable to come up with a base hit in key situations.
Starter John Kravetz (Illinois) had a solid evening as he gave up 2 earned runs in 6 innings. The two runs came on solo shots to Tyler Huntey (Central Michigan) in the 2nd and Alex Bacon (North Florida) in the fifth. The Rafters kept battling back as they constantly put runners on. Wisconsin Rapids had the leadoff man in an inning reach base in the last five innings of the game.
Some sloppy Mallards' play led to the Rafters' two runs. With runners on first and third, Mallards starter Chris Oakley (North Carolina) committed a balk to allow Zach Domingues (Long Beach State) to score. Then in the 7th, the Rafters tied things up when Cullen Gassaway (Arkansas) came home on the catcher Huntey's second passed ball of the inning.
However, Trent Higginbothem (North Florida) delivered a clutch, two out RBI single in the bottom of the 7th that would prove to be enough.
The Rafters return home on Saturday, June 14th to take on the Battle Creek Bombers. First pitch is slated for 6:05pm and be sure to remain in your seat following the conclusion of the game as a dazzling fireworks display will be brought to you by Budweiser.
