Mallards Call on McDonnell to Begin Series against Woodchucks

Madison, WI- June 14, 2014. Rob McDonnell (Illinois) will look to build on his last start tonight against the Wisconsin Woodchucks (10-6) at the "Duck Pond". First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm.

McDonnell tossed a one hitter last Saturday against the Green Bay Bullfrogs (9-9), striking out five and walking three in his first win of the year. In three appearances and two starts for the Mallards, McDonnell holds a 1.54 ERA in 11.2 innings pitched, and is averaging just over a strikeout an inning with 12.

The southpaw will go against 6'4", 225-pound Arkansas product Alex Phillips. The Nacogdoches, Texas native has yet to appear for the Woodchucks this year. He saw action in ten games for the Razorbacks in 2014 and allowed 26 hits, 13 walks and 13 runs while striking out 17 in 30.2 innings pitched.

Last night, the Mallards carried themselves over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (4-14) in a 4-2 victory. Kirby Snead (Florida) received the win, pitching 2.1 innings in relief and giving up one run on one hit while striking out two. Alex Bacon (North Florida) and Tyler Huntey (Central Michigan) both hit solo home runs to help the Mallards to their eleventh win of the year and push them into a tie for first in the South Division with the Lakeshore Chinooks (11-6).

The Mallards stay at the "Duck Pond" tomorrow to finish their two game series against the Woodchucks. Tomorrow's game features a Stoddard's Country Grove Market Father's Day Meat Raffle. TDS will present the ZOOperstars and there will be a Physicians Plus Rally Towel Giveaway. There is also a Petting Zoo at the "Duck Pond."
