Green Bay Rockers News Release
Kalamazoo, Mich. - Green Bay's first ever trip to Kalamazoo ended in a loss, sending Green Bay to 9-10 on the season. The Bullfrogs offense was held to just five hits. Chris Cervantes (Eastern Kentucky) earned the win with 3.2 innings pitched, allowing three hits and one run.
Ellenbest picked up the loss, allowing six hits and five runs in five innings pitched, while striking out two and walking one. Shane Bryant picked up the save in consecutive nights for the Growlers.
Kalamazooo kicked off the scoring in the home half of the first inning after a leadoff triple from John Rubino (Eastern Michigan) and an RBI sacrifice fly from Troy Montgomery to give Kalamazoo a 2-1 lead (Ohio State).
The Bullfrogs claimed the lead in the third inning without recording a hit. Dennis Colon (Illinois State) walked and Matthew de la Rosa (Lenoir-Rhyne) reached base to begin the threat. The pair then double stole. Colon came around on a wild pitch to make the score 1-1. De la Rosa would follow, scoring after Dean Long (Emporia State) intentionally put himself in a rundown between first and second base so de la Rosa could score.
The Bullfrogs would extend their lead to 3-1 on an RBI sac fly from Ryan Koziol after Matt Beaty doubled in the top of the sixth. It was the lone RBI for the Bullfrogs on the night.
The big blow, however, was dealt by Kalamazoo in the sixth inning. The Growlers tied the game at three after back-to-back RBI singles by Jared Kujawa (Western Michigan) and Ryan Spaulding (Ball State). Ryan Bull (Notre Dame) reached on an error, allowing the Growlers to take a 4-3 lead. The lead was pushed to 5-3 after an RBI groundout from Austin Cangelosi (Indiana).
Cangelosi would provide the final run for Kalamazoo, scoring on a Rubino RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. Green Bay sent the tying run to the plate in the top of ninth after singles from Ivan Vieitez (Lenior-Rhyne) and Tony Brandner (No. Illinois), but the Bullfrogs fell 6-3.
Tomorrow's game in Kalamazoo is scheduled for 4:05 PM central time. It will be game two of two in the series.
