Alonso, Mallards Roll over Woodchucks

Madison, WI- Designated hitter Pete Alonso (Florida) led the Madison Mallards (12-6) with three RBI and added his third home run of the year to help the Mallards beat the Wisconsin Woodchucks (10-7) tonight at the "Duck Pond." Mallards starter Rob McDonnell (Illinois) pitched 5.0 innings of two run ball, and closer Tim Black (Central Michigan) blanked the Woodchucks in the eighth and ninth to help the Mallards stay atop the Northwoods League South Division.

Alonso went deep in the fourth inning to put the Mallards on the board, hitting a two run drive over the left field fence to give Madison a 2-1 lead. The Tampa, Florida native was 1-for-3 on the night, adding his third RBI with a sacrifice fly in the seventh to score Michael Handel (Minnesota) from third.

McDonnell went five complete innings tonight, giving up two runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out five to move to 2-1 for the season. Woodchucks starter Alex Phillips (Arkansas) received the loss, lasting 3.2 innings and letting up three runs on three hits in his first start of the year.

Black entered the game in the eighth inning and struck out two and then retired the side in the ninth with just seven pitches to notch his fifth save of the year. Black holds a 0.00 ERA in six appearances, giving up a combined three hits while striking out 14 in nine innings of work.

The Mallards stay at the "Duck Pond" tomorrow to finish their two game series against the Woodchucks. Tomorrow's game features a Stoddard's Country Grove Market Father's Day Meat Raffle. TDS will present the ZOOperstars and there will be a Physicians Plus Rally Towel Giveaway. There is also a Petting Zoo at the "Duck Pond."
