Madison Mallards News Release
Sitting at the top of the division with a perfect 4-0 record, the Mallards look to extend their streak later this evening as they take on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. First pitch is slated for 6:05 pm and will be part of day five of opening week in the Northwoods League, presented by Edvest.
Colin Brockhouse (Ball State) took a no-hitter into the 7th inning and was named the Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night. He allowed just one hit while striking out seven batters, in 6.1 innings of work.
Tonight, the Mallards will turn to right-hander Heath Renz (UW-Whitewater) in their first trip to Wisconsin Rapids of 2016. A 6'2," 200-pound sophomore from Jefferson, Wisconsin, Renz went a perfect 6-0 with a 2.42 ERA for Warhawks in 2016. He'll be making his first start of 2016 for the Mallards.
Renz will be accompanied by the hottest group of hitters in the Northwoods League, as Madison leads the league in runs scored (34), hits (51) and doubles (12). They are led by catcher Lucas Halstead (Pacific), who leads the league in hits (9), and Matt McCann, who leads the league in stolen bases (4).
The Rafters will throw right-hander Dylan File (Dixie State) in this matchup, who went 6-1 with a 2.99 ERA in 90.1 innings pitched in 2016. For the Rafters to find success, File will need to shut down the Mallards as best they can, as Madison has scored twice as many runs through the first few games as the Rafters have.
The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond on Monday, June 6th to take on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. The game will feature a Chet's Car Care magnet schedule giveaway. The Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board will also sponsor Dairy night, with dairy themed promotions and giveaways. Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
