Bucks Drop to Kingfish, 2-1, in Series Opener

KENOSHA, Wis. - Waterloo fell to the Kenosha Kingfish, 2-1, in five innings due to an excessive amount of fog on Saturday night. Play was initially delayed in the top of the fifth due to rain before officially being called in top of the sixth. Taylor led off the top of the sixth with an infield single before play was delayed for a second time, however, since the sixth inning was never complete, the game ended with Kenosha leading by one in the fifth inning (the last full inning of play).

Kenosha's Derek Heffel (1-0) retired nine in a row at one point and yielded an unearned run on four hits while striking out nine over five innings in his first start of the year.

Pete Schuler's solo shot to centerfield in the second put Kenosha in front, 1-0. Schuler's solo home run was also the first home run of the year for the Kingfish.

Waterloo (3-2) evened things up at 1-1 with an unearned run in the fifth. Waterloo native Zach Fricke led off the frame with a single to right before advancing to second on an errant pickoff throw by Heffel. After a Heffel balk put Fricke on third, Blake Alexander tied things up on a sharp, two-out line drive single to center.

Kenosha (4-1) took the lead for good on an unearned run in the home half. Nick Kanavas singled to right-center to begin the frame before moving up 90-feet on a Cal Jadacki sacrifice bunt. After a wild pitch placed Kanavas on third, Kanavas came around to score the game's final run courtesy of a Bucks fielding error.

Nick Hynes (0-1) was charged for the loss after allowing an unearned run on one hit to the only batter he faced.

Steven Baker recorded a no-decision in his Bucks debut. Baker allowed one run on two hits while striking out three in four innings in and matched a Bucks season-high with eight consecutive batters retired.

Waterloo goes for its second straight series split tomorrow afternoon vs. Kenosha. RHP Jared Crescentini (1-0, 0.00) makes his second start of the year for the Bucks while the Kingfish send LHP Aaron Schwark (0-0, 0.00) for his season debut.
