Madison Mallards News Release

WAUSAU, WI - The Madison Mallards defeated the Wisconsin Woodchucks 6-3 Friday night at Athletic Park, completing a two-game sweep. The Mallards, who got the majority of their help from a four-run first inning and starter Estevan Uriegas (Texas A&M), are now one game under .500 for the second half of the season.

The game got off to a great start for Madison, as the team scored four times on only one hit. Justin Parr (Illinois) led off the game with a hit for the second night in a row, and he was followed by Justin Scanlon (Michigan State) and Willie Argo (Illinois) who both walked. Zack Powers (Florida) was then hit by a pitch to score Parr, Andrew Barna (Davidson) was walked, and both Argo and Powers scored on a fielder's choice by Andrew Wasmund (Madison College) to finish off the scoring in the inning.

The Woodchucks got back into the game quickly, scoring three times in the second inning to make it a 4-3 game. Garrett Yrigoyen (Nevada - Reno) scored on a groundout by Robbie De La Cruz (UNLV) with two outs to tally the first score for the Wisconsin. Danny Susdorf (UC - San Diego) and Mike Gerber (Creighton) both scored on a single by Seth Batty (UC - Davis) to round out the Woodchucks' scoring for the night.

The Mallards, who only had four hits as a team Friday, tacked on two more runs for good measure in the fifth inning as Matt Juengel (Texas A&M) hit a sacrifice fly that scored Parr, and Scanlon scored the final run on the night when he stole home in a double steal with Argo.

Overall, Parr led the Mallards by collecting two of the team's four hits. Argo and Scanlon were the only other hitters to contribute in the hit column, but all of the team's RBI on the night came from guys who did not get a hit. Jeungel, Powers, Barna, and Wasmund all had RBI in the win.

Wisconsin was led by Batty and Cody Regis (UCLA), who combined for four of the team's seven hits.

Uriegas (3-1) was lights out for the Mallards, taking control of a Wisconsin offense that scored six runs on 13 hits a night ago. He was able to shake off the rough second inning to go a full seven innings. He allowed just the three runs on six hits, earning his third win of the season. He also walked three and

struck out six batters. Tony Bryant (Oregon State) pitched a scoreless eighth for a hold, and Matt Milroy (Illinois) went the ninth to pick up his team-leading fifth save of the season.

Aaron Gates (Pepperdine) took the loss for Wisconsin, as he only made it through the first inning. He gave up four runs (three earned) on just the one hit, but walked three in the inning. With the loss, he falls to 0-1 on the season.

The Mallards will now head back to the "Duck Pond" to begin a three-game series with La Crosse Saturday. Game time for the series opener is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
