Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (November 1, 2013) - The host Quad City Mallards scored four power play goals- three of them while up 5-on-3 - and got 27 saves from Thomas Heemskirk on the way to a 6-1 defeat of the St. Charles Chill Friday evening.

The Mallards pulled away will three third period man advantage goals. Quad City was already on top 3-1 before Mike Hellyer buried a rebound at 11:50 of the third. The Mallards produced a further pair of rapid-fire goals after a series of late St. Charles penalties provided Quad City with an extended two-man advantage. Mike Monfredo one-timed the fifth Mallard goal home with just 51 seconds remaining. A mere 25 seconds later Jeff Lee capped off the Mallard win from the doorstep. Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel assisted on each of the Mallards' third period goals.

The Mallard' late flourish was built on momentum they had grabbed in the second period. Quad City scored twice in just under two minutes in the second to stretch what had been a 1-0 lead to 3-0. At 5:41 of the middle frame, the Mallards were up 5-on-3 when Gergo Nagy's drive from the high slot doubled the gap. Vladimir Nikiforov- who also had an assist- extended the margin to three goals from point-blank range at 7:38. Chad Costello's power play one timer got the Chill on the scoreboard for the first time at the 9:52 mark, but St. Charles would get no closer.

The Mallards never looked back after Nicholas Rioux opened the scoring just four minutes and eight seconds into the game with a wrist shot from the slot.

The Mallards return to action tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. on home ice against the Brampton Beast. Fans who donate new, unwrapped toys at the iWireless Center tomorrow will receive a coupon good for $3 off the price of one ticket (for each toy donated) to tomorrow evening's game.
