Americans Remain Atop the CHL with Shootout Win

Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans beat the Denver Cutthroats 3-2 in a shootout Friday night. With their fifth straight victory, the Americans remain in first place and gave Denver their first loss of the season.

The Americans struck first five minutes into the first period; when Mike Berube slid the puck past Cutthroats goalie Kent Patterson. Tyler Ludwig was given the assist; his 100th point of his pro career.

Denver struck back at the 11:46 mark of the first when Michael Schumacher took the puck from Troy Schwab and Steve Kaunisto, tying the game 1-1. The Americans took advantage of the power play and took a 2-1 lead before the first intermission when Jonathan Lessard lit the lamp at the 3:29 mark, Alex Lavoie and Darryl Bootland with the assists. Allen outshot the Cutthroats 19-8in the first.

Denver tied the game 2-2 in the second when Robin Soudek fired a shot past American goalie David Brown. Jean-Phillip Chabot and Cam Reid drew the assists at the 12:03 mark of the second. Allen edged Denver in shots 11-9 in the second period.

After a scoreless third period and overtime, the game was settled in a shootout. Darryl Bootland scored the game winner, giving him a league leading six goals on the season and giving the Americans the 3-2 win.

The Americans will travel to Tulsa for tomorrow night's game and will be back in action at the Allen Event Center, Sunday November 3rd at 4:05 for Duck Dynasty night, attended by Duck Dynasty's own Mountain Man.
