Mallards Look to Stretch Win Streak to Seven

Madison, Wis. - The Madison Mallards (9-3) look for their tenth win against the Battle Creek Bombers (4-8) this afternoon in Battle Creek, Michigan at 4:05 pm.

The Mallards finished a two game sweep of the Green Bay Bullfrogs last night, beating the Bullfrogs 3-1 at the "Duck Pond" in a game highlighted by a shutout performance from starter Rob McDonnell (Illinois) and two RBI from Pete Alonso (Florida). McDonnell pitched 5.2 scoreless innings, striking out five and giving up just one hit and three walks to record his first win of the year. Alonsos two RBI game brings his tally to ten on the year and his two hit performance makes him 10-for-19 in four games played, good for a .526 average at the dish.

On the mound tonight for the Mallards is 6'2", 180-pound righty Christian Taugner (Brown). Taugner is 1-0 on the year after pitching last Monday in a 17-5 rout of the Kenosha Kingfish. Taugner has held batters to a combined .114 average at the plate in two appearances, giving up five hits in 9.0 innings of work.

Battle Creek is scheduled to start Jacob Waguespack (0-1), a 6'6", 215-pound hurler out of Ole Miss. In 9.1 innings pitched, Waguespack holds a 2.89 ERA, having struck out 12 batters and giving up a total of three runs on ten hits.

Tomorrow the Mallards will stay in Battle Creek for game two of their two game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm.

They return to the "Duck Pond" Tuesday, June 10th to play the Lakeshore Chinooks at 7:05 pm. That night is Ho-Chunk Gaming Night and will feature a Ho-Chunk Plinko Board and Ho-Chunk Playing Card Giveaway in the Great Dane Duck Blind. It is also Valpak Great Outdoors Night.
