Battle Creek, MI. - The Madison Mallards (9-4) six game win streak was snapped tonight by the Battle Creek Bombers (4-8) in a 14 inning marathon by the score of 4-5 in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Nate Hoffmann (Madison College) received the loss for the Mallards, pitching the last two innings of the game and giving up a walk-off single to Bombers designated hitter Henri Lartigue (Ole Miss). Hoffmann pitched two innings in relief, letting up two hits and two walks in his third appearance with the club. The win went to Bombers pitcher Dakota Mekkes (Michigan State), who held the Mallards scoreless in the 13th and 14th, striking out three Mallards to move to 1-0 on the year.
First baseman Joe Dudek (North Carolina) drove in one run for the Mallards, going 2-for-5 with two hits, including a double, to bring him to 5-for-11 on the season, good for a .455 batting average in his first three games.
In the 14th, Bombers leadoff hitter Laz Rivera (Miami) reached base on an infield single and moved to second on a Pete Alonso (Florida) throwing error. Rivera then scored on a walk-off single from Lartigue, who was 2-for-7, driving in Rivera for his sole RBI of the night.
