Madison, WI - July 16, 2014. A two run shot off the bat of Mallards first baseman Pete Alonso (Florida) in the seventh inning helped the Madison Mallards (10-5, 28-20) sweep the Green Bay Bullfrogs (6-8, 23-26) tonight in Green Bay by a score of 6-3.
Alonso's home run broke a 3-3 tie to put the Mallards up 5-3. He finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Center fielder Alex Bacon (North Florida) added another run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to bring the score to 6-3.
Contributing offensively for the Mallards was left fielder Tyler Allen (Virginia) and third baseman Tony Butler (Virginia), who both had one RBI in the fourth inning after Allen doubled to bring in catcher Matt Thaiss (Virginia) and Butler singled to bring in Allen.
The Bullfrogs scored one run in the first on designated hitter Ryan Howell's (Chabot) solo homer and answered the Mallards two run fourth with two of their own in the fifth on a two run bomb from Bullfrogs shortstop Matthew de la Rosa (Lenoir-Rhyne University).
