Green Bay Hosts Madison on Getaway Day at Joannes Stadium
July 16, 2014 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis. - Wednesday will be the final game of an eight-game home stand for Green Bay at Joannes Stadium, as the Bullfrogs (23-25, 6-7 Sec Half) host the Madison Mallards (27-20, 9-5 Sec Half). The Bullfrogs are 4-3 over the last seven at home prior to the tonight's matchup.
Wednesday night is also the second game of a two-game series with Madison. The Mallards won a roller coaster game on Tuesday night in Green Bay. The Mallards jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings behind a two-run home run from Robbie Tenerowicz (California) and a three-run double from Pete Alonso (Florida).
The Bullfrogs battled back to tie the game at five before allowing two more runs in the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh, the tying run was cut down at home for Green Bay to end the inning. The Bullfrogs left a man in scoring position in the eighth and ninth innings as well.
The Bullfrogs will look to split the series tonight and will turn to their ace on the mound, Roberto Baroniel (Nova Southeastern). Baroniel, selected as a South Division All-Star last Friday, has won his last four starts and is in the midst of a streak of seven consecutive quality starts. A win tonight would mean Baroniel has the longest winning streak of any pitcher in the Northwoods League this season. Overall, Baroniel owns a 4-1 record with a 2.00 ERA. In his last appearance, on July 10th against Battle Creek, Baroniel threw seven shutout innings to the Bombers, giving up only five hits while striking out a season-high eight batters.
Madison counters with an All-Star of their own on Wednesday, starting pitcher Christian Taugner (Brown). Taugner has a 3-1 record with a 2.80 ERA, including wins in each of his last two outings on the mound. Taugner has not gotten through seven innings in any start, but has been effective, allowing at most four earned runs in his seven starts. He has allowed two earned runs or less in six of his eight appearances.
Wednesday's first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from Green Bay. Fans will receive a free rally towel courtesy of Gallagher's Pizza. Fans can purchase tickets by calling the Bullfrogs ticket office at (920) 497-7225, or by visiting the Bullfrogs website at www.greenbaybullfrogs.com.
