Madison Mallards News Release

Battle Creek, MI - The Mallards hit the road for their longest bus ride of the season to Battle Creek in Michigan on Saturday morning. In their first matchup against a team from the mitten state, Battle Creek snatched game one by a score of 5-2.

Mitchell Leroy got the start for the Mallards and was jumped on in the bottom of the 2nd at C.O. Brown Stadium. All base runners and the three runs that the Battle Jacks scored in that frame came with two outs. Leroy has now dropped his last three decisions, all coming in his last four starts. The final run allowed by Leroy made it a four-run game in the bottom of the 5th on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Raymond Hilbrich. The Ducks were able to light up the scoreboard for the first time in the top of the 6th on a Christian Rivera single, scoring Scott Shaw. Three Mallards put together multi-hit games in the loss: Chad McCann, Adrian Mella, and Tommy Carpenter.

The Great Lakes East's Battle Jacks responded with one run of their own in the bottom of that inning off reliever Chris Byhre. The final Madison run was scored in the top of the 8th when Carpenter singled to drive in McCann. The single from Carpenter resulted in his first RBI of the season. Justin Miller finished out the game on the bump for the Mallards and tossed two scoreless innings while striking out three. Madison has now dropped 11 of their last 13.

The Mallards complete their series with the Battle Jacks tomorrow afternoon from C.O. Brown Stadium at 1:35 PM CT/2:35 PM ET. Game action can be found on the Northwoods League website under the 'Live Action' tab.
