Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters completed a four-game sweep of the Kenosha Kingfish with an 11-0 shutout victory on Friday night.
The Pit Spitters outscored the Kingfish 29-11 in the series. They have won seven in a row and 12 of their last 13 games. Having not thrown a shutout until July 24, they have thrown three in the last seven games.
Scoring started early and often. Colin Summerhill doubled home a pair in the bottom of the first. He added one in the second on a sacrifice fly with another run scoring on a groundout.
In the third, one run scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning with two outs and the bases loaded, Brennen Dorighi launched his first home run of the season. The grand slam is the second hit by a Pit Spitter this season, joining Colin Summerhill who did it against Kalamazoo on June 6.
The final two runs came across in the fifth. Summerhill struck again for an RBI double and came into score on Glenn Miller's sacrifice fly.
Every single batter reached base at least once in the win. Hitters took a season-high 14 walks in the victory, with four players drawing multiple.
Pitching was fantastic again for Traverse City. Nate Blain pitched the first three innings, striking out two. O'Kelly McWilliams IV pitched the next three, earning the win. Blake Ignaciak took care of the seventh and eighth innings with three strikeouts. Chris Whelton took the ninth and struck out a pair to seal the win. Blain, McWilliams and Ignaciak all got out of bases loaded situations to keep Kenosha off the board.
