Quad City Mallards News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 5, 2016) - Alex Petan scored twice, Alex Gudbranson broke a 1-1 tie midway through the third period with what proved to be the game winner and C.J. Motte made 39 saves as the Quad City Mallards (5-3-0) defeated the host Indy Fuel (2-5-1) 4-1 Saturday night.

Gudbranson scored the first of three third period Mallard goals from blue line to snap the deadlock. Petain provided some insurance with his second goal of the night when Mike Wilson's shot caromed of Petain and then Indy goaltender Eric Levine (28 saves) before crossing the goal line with two minutes and 44 seconds left in the game. Chris Francis' empty net goal finished off the Fuel 89 seconds later.

Petan opened the scoring at 15:53 of the second period by pouncing on the rebound after Levine stopped his initial bid. The Fuel struck back dramatically with just 8.2 seconds left in the second while on the power play when Kevin Lynch jammed in a rebound. Motte responded with 18 third period saves to set the stage for his teammates' outburst at the other end.

The Mallards return home tomorrow to face the Cincinnati Cyclones at 4:05 p.m. Fans can bring their skates and join the Mallards on the ice for a postgame skate after that contest.
