Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, CO. - Jesse Mychan scored two goals as the Eagles staged a furious comeback that fell just short in a 4-3 loss to the Idaho Steelheads at the Budweiser Events Center on Saturday. Colorado posted a season-high 40 shots in the contest, outshooting the Steelheads 40-22 on the evening.
Idaho would storm out of the gates early, as forward Joe Basaraba notched his first goal of the season from the right circle just 1:32 into the contest to give the Steelheads the early 1-0 lead. Less than four minutes later, Idaho forward Rob Linsmayer wristed a shot past Eagles goaltender Kent Simpson to put the Steelheads up 2-0 with only 5:19 gone in the first period.
The Eagles would find an answer on the power play when forward Ryan Harrison jammed in a puck in the low slot to cut Idaho's lead to 2-1 with 12:20 remaining in the opening frame.
The Steelheads would swell their lead back to two with just 55 seconds remaining in the first, when defenseman Brandon Anselmini launched a shot from the point through traffic, lighting the lamp and giving Idaho a 3-1 advantage that they would carry with them into the first intermission.
Colorado would again find themselves on the power play early in the second period and for the second time on the night the Eagles would capitalize on the man-advantage. Mychan dove behind the net of Idaho goaltender Landon Bow and wrapped around the post to stuff the puck into the net, slicing the Steelheads lead to 3-2 at the 5:47 mark of the second period.
Heading into the final period of regulation, Mychan would strike again, as he wired a wrist shot past Bow, knotting the game at 3-3 with only 1:06 gone in the period. Colorado would stage a furious offensive attack, ultimately pulling Simpson in favor of the extra attacker, but the effort would not produce a goal as the Eagles fell to the Steelheads by a final score of 4-3.
