Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, Wis. - The Madison Mallards (13-9, 33-24) pursuit of a second-half, South Division title will continue Sunday evening when field manager Donnie Scott and company square off with the Lakeshore Chinooks (10-16, 27-31) in the finale of their two-game weekend set at Kapco Park. Comprehensive play-by-play coverage of tonight's contest will be provided by 100.5 FM ESPN Madison beginning at 4:45 p.m. leading up first pitch, which is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. CT.
Andrew Beckwith (Coastal Carolina) will receive his seventh start of the season tonight against the Chinooks. Beckwith, a 6-foot-0 right hander preparing for his junior collegiate campaign, enters Sunday on the heels on an outing in which he lasted one inning with four run (two earned) allowed July 19 against Battle Creek. Overall, the Blythewood, S.C., native carries a 2-2 record, 3.97 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 18:6 strikeout-to-walk ratio across nine appearances (31.2 IP) in 2015.
To counter, Lakeshore will assign right-handed pitcher Marshall Kasowski (Univ. of Houston) with his sixth starting appearance of the summer. Kasowski, a 6-foot-3 right-hander from Conroe, Tex., has pitched admirably in his first campaign in the Northwoods League, going 4-0 with a 1.98 across seven games (31.2 IP) and boasts a 46:15 strikeout-to-walk ratio in the meanwhile. Overall, opposing lineups have managed just a .159 batting average against Kasowski.
Sunday's Roster Moves - The Mallards have waived left-handed pitchers Scott Moss (Florida), Logan Browning (Florida) and Grant Spranger (Southeastern CC) and infielder Scott Tyler (Ball State) from the active roster. In response, Madison has re-signed utility infielder Chris Tschida (Western Illinois) to the active roster and signed shortstop Matt McCann (Fairleigh Dickson).
The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond next Saturday, August 1 against the Wisconsin Woodchucks (10-10, 22-33). Next Saturday will feature The Diamond Center Diamond Dig post-game, ice-cream scoop giveaway as well as a free Kids Clinic from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. presented by Zimbrick-Honda.
