Chinooks Prevail In Tight Game With Madison

The Lakeshore Chinooks and Madison Mallards had a tight contest on Saturday, which was eventually won in the 10th inning by the Chinooks with a score of 3-2. It was a similar story on Sunday as the two teams played another great game, which was eventually won by the Chinooks 2-1.
Marshall Kasowski (Houston) got the start for the Chinooks after pitching just last Thursday but only lasting one inning. He ran into some trouble in the second inning after loading the bases with no outs when Cameron Frost (Washington State) reached on an error by shortstop Anthony Massicci (Canisius), Bryce Carter (Stanford) singled and Chris Tschida (Washington State) walked. However, Kasowski locked things down, escaping the inning unscathed by inducing a strikeout and double play.
The Mallards did strike first, plating a run in the top of the fourth. Jason Goldstein (Illinois) led off the inning with a single, and he then advanced to third on a base knock off the bat of Cameron Frost (Washington State). Goldstein then came around to score on a single hit by Carter.
Lakeshore did not let them hold the lead for long, coming right back in the bottom of the fourth to tie things up. Doug Kraeger (Richmond) got on base in the frame by smacking a double down the left field line. He would then come around to score thanks to Andrew Shaps (Arizona State), who smacked a two-out single to make it a 1-1 game.
Kasowski gave up just the single run in his outing. He ended up throwing 5.2 innings, giving up four hits and walking two while striking out seven. With his pitch count rising, he was removed from the game with two outs in the sixth and a runner on third. Connor Jones (Georgia) replaced Kasowski, needing just one pitch to get the Chinooks out of the sixth inning to preserve score at 1-1.
The score remained 1-1 until the bottom of the seventh, when Lakeshore broke the tie. Shaps reached base with a leadoff single, later advancing to second on an error by Mallards catcher Carter. The next two hitters were retired, but Mark Kolzosvary (Florida) legged out an infield single, allowing Shaps to score to give the Chinooks the lead.
Jones was the only reliever that the Lakeshore squad needed as he came through with a great outing. He fired 3.1 innings, completely shutting down the Mallards offense. He gave up no runs on just two hits and no walks while striking out four. He was also credited with the win after being in the ballgame when the Chinooks took the lead.
The Chinooks will now go on the road to Mankato for a two-game series against the MoonDogs. The club will return home on Wednesday to take on the Kenosha Kingfish for the final time in the regular season.
