Mainieri Kicks Off Zephyrs Final Homestand Of 2008 On Friday

Metairie, LA - LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri will throw out the first pitch and sign autographs on Friday, August 29th when the New Orleans Zephyrs begin their final homestand of the 2008 season by facing the Nashville Sounds at 7:00 p.m.

A day ahead of the LSU football team beginning defense of its national championship, all fans wearing LSU apparel will receive $5 admission for grandstand seats.

In his second season at LSU, Mainieri led the Tigers to the 2008 SEC Championship, a school-record 20-game winning streak, and a berth in the College World Series. After starting his playing career at LSU, Mainieri went into coaching in 1983 and has compiled a career record of 942-537-6 in 26 seasons at the helm of St. Thomas, Air Force, Notre Dame and LSU.

The series pitching probables are as follows:

Friday 7 p.m. vs. Nashville: LH Jon Niese (5-1) vs. LH Lindsay Gulin (7-7)

Saturday 6 p.m. vs. Nashville: RH Ruddy Lugo (5-12) vs. LH Sam Narron (9-4)

Sunday 6 p.m. vs. Nashville: RH Bobby Parnell (1-2) vs. LH Chris Narveson (6-12)

Monday 2 p.m. vs. Nashville: LH Willie Collazo (4-8) vs. RH Nic Ungs (2-3)

In addition to Mainieri kicking off the festivities on Friday, the game will be followed by a postgame fireworks show. Saturday's game is half-price group night, as all groups who came out to Zephyr Field in 2008 can bring a group of 20 or more to receive even larger discounts. Sunday night is Fan Appreciation Night, with special gate giveaways, the last postgame fireworks show and a concert featuring Top Cats. The season concludes on Monday with some daytime Labor Day baseball, a 2:00 start for the final chance to see the 2008 Zephyrs in action.
