Colorado Springs Splits Modified Double Header With Tucson
August 26, 2008 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
Colorado Springs split a modified double header with Tucson Tuesday night at Security Service Field.
The Sky Sox and Sidewinders finished the suspended game from August 14th in front of 2,151 fans with the Sidewinders taking the contest 15-8.
The game was originally postponed due to rain following the bottom of the third inning with the Sidewinders leading 5-3.
The visitors added to that lead immediately once play resumed Tuesday as every player in the starting lineup collected at least one hit. Second baseman Donnie Kelly added five hits while Jamie D'Antona and Justin Upton each added two-run home runs.
Dustin Glant (3-3) picked up the win in relief of Evan MacLane. Glant, who came into the game once the game resumed, went three innings and allowed just one run.
Last night's winner Sean Smith (5-5) took the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) in three innings before the game was suspended.
Valerio De Los Santos entered the game for the Sky Sox once it resumed and pitched five innings. He allowed nine runs and 15 of the Sidewinders 23 hits.
It didn't take long for the home team to get back at the visitors as the Sky Sox used six solid innings from Franklin Morales to down Tucson 6-1 in front of 5,486 fans.
Morales (10-4) became the first Sky Sox starting pitcher to eclipse the 10-win mark since Chris Gissell went 14-2 in 2004. He allowed just three hits and one run while striking out three and walking five batters.
Christian Colonel hit a run-scoring double in the bottom of the first inning to get the Sky Sox on the board. He later hit a lead-off home run in a fourth inning that saw Colorado Springs score three times and break the game open.
Emiliano Fruto (6-6) took the loss. He was pulled in favor of Doug Slaten after allowing the three-run fourth inning and finished with five strikeouts and one walk.
NOTES:
Joe Koshansky and Josh Whitesell each began the day tied for second place on their team's single-season RBI list. They both moved into sole possession of second place once the suspended game resumed since they had both collected an RBI before play was stopped.
