July 19, 2014 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Sanford Mainers News Release

Keene, NH- The Sanford Mainers (17-11) have been up and down the past couple of days, from a stellar hitting and pitching display at Valley yesterday (7/18) to a quiet offensively night at Keene (14-16) recording just 5 hits and 1 run against the Swamp Bats during a 4-1 loss at Alumni Field. It was the first loss at Alumni Field for the Mainers in 3 games played, each team had won on the road through the first four games of this match-up with the Mainers taking the first two at Keene and the Swamp Bats defeating the Mainers twice inside Goodall Park here in Sanford.

Brett Adcock (Michigan, 2-2 3.44 ERA) gets the loss after completing 6 innings pitched allowing 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 7 strike outs. Connor Jones (Virginia, 2-0, 0.75 ERA) gets the victory for the Swamp Bats. The Mainers sit 2.5 games back of the Vermont Mountaineers (21-10) who have won 6 in a row. Sanford has gone 7-and-3 in their last 10 games compared to 8-and-2 for the streaking 'Neers.

Kendall Patrick (Michigan) moved his hit-by-pitch total to 10 on the season which still leads the NECBL by three over the Keene Swamp Bats, Brady Sheetz with 7; Patrick finished 1-for-3 with a double. Mike Rescigno (Maryland) who will take part in the Home Run Derby at the All-Star Game festivities hit a 408 foot bomb that dented the hood of a car in the parking lot to left center field for the one and only run in favor of the Mainers, Rescigno pinch hit in the 8th inning and finished 1-for-1 with his first home run on the season. Cory Raley (Texas Tech) went 1-for-4, Matt Pagano (Marist) showed his All-Star form reaching base all three times finishing 1-for-1 with 2 base-on-balls moving his batting average to .281 on the season. Stevie Berman (Santa Clara) will be heading to the All-Star game as well and completed his night 1-for-4.

Sanford scattered just 5 hits and left 9 on base as the offense never really found traction against the stellar pitching of the Swamp Bats, Darick Hall looked impressive in his two innings of relief for starter Connor Jones with 2 K's, Matt Clancy continued to deliver in the set-up role and Ben Criscuolo recorded his 4th save of the season working a scoreless 9th allowing 1 hit and issuing 1 walk.

The Mainers, well most of them, have the day off tomorrow with the All-Star game taking place in Holyoke, Massachusetts, again Manager Aaron Izaryk, pitching coach John Raiola and hitting coach Tim Atwood will join Cam Hatch, Christian Lavoie, Rich Vrana, Stevie Berman, Drake Parker, and Matt Pagano inside Mackenzie Stadium for the All-Star festivities!
