Keene Swamp Bats News Release

KEENE, N.H. - The Keene Swamp Bats head into the All-Star Break on a winning note, snapping their three game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Sanford Mainers.

With the win the Swamp Bats improve to 14-16 on the year and Sanford falls to 17-11 with the loss. It was the first time this season that the home team won a game between these two teams.

"I don't think anyone was taking this last game before the All-Star Break lightly with a couple of days off. I thought the team has been pretty well lately and have taken a couple tough losses in a row so it's good to get a win under our belts and get things back on track," said Swamp Bats starting pitcher Connor Jones (Virginia).

Jones had a solid outing pitching five shutout innings giving up just three hits, two walks, hit two batters and struck out five on 83 pitches.

"It felt really good, it's nice working with Robbie we are pretty familiar throwing to each other and the defense played really well today so it's good to go out and get a win for the team," said Jones.

The Swamp Bats got the scoring started in the second inning when Bret Dennis (St. John's) hit a bases loaded double scoring Aubrey McCarty (Vanderbilt) and Stephen Smith (Texas Tech) to give the "˜Bats a 2-0 lead.

In the seventh inning the Swamp Bats added to their lead scoring two runs in the frame. Keene started their two out rally when Taylor Perez (St. Leo) singled to right. He then stole second and scored on Brady Sheetz's (Hartford) double to put the Swamp Bats up 3-0. A double by Ryan Summers (Louisville) then plated Sheetz to give the "˜Bats a 4-0 advantage.

Sanford got on the board in the eighth inning when Mike Rescigno (Maryland) hit a lead-off pinch hit home run to left field off of Keene All-Star reliever Matt Clancy (St. John's) to cut the Swamp Bats lead to 4-1.

Ben Criscuolo (Southern New Hampshire) came into the game in the ninth inning to pick up the save. It was Criscuolo's fourth save of the season.

The Swamp Bats continue their season after the All-Star Break against the Valley Blue Sox on Tuesday, July 22 at Mackenzie Stadium in Holyoke, Mass. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
