Mainers put 10 on the board in win over Muskrats

Sanford Mainers News Release


Sanford (9-8) threatened in the first inning against Laconia (7-10) pitcher Adam Frank (0-1) stranding two runners. In the second, the Moose brought two home, Kendall Patrick worked a walk with one out, Sam Balzano was hit-by-pitch and Nick Lovullo walked as well loading the bases for Matt Pagano who lined a single to center field bringing in the first run putting the Mainers up 1-0 as Sam Balzano crossed the plate followed closely by Kendall Patrick taking an early lead 2-0.

Brett Adcock (Michigan, 1-0) made his first start of the season completing 6 innings allowing 5 hits and 4 runs while fanning three batters. Kendall Patrick (Michigan) caught Adcock for the first time in live game action despite being teammates with the Wolverines.

The Muskrats responded in the bottom of the second cutting the Mainers lead to 2-1. Ben Miller doubled to lead off the inning, Braxton Martinez skips one to second moving Miller to third and Chris Beall grounded out to second manufacturing a run as Miller touches home.

The Mainers add four runs in the top of the third to take a 6-1 lead, Kendall Patrick began the third with his league leading 8th hit-by-pitch moving Matt Harris to second after his single and Stevie Berman to third loading the bases for Walker Pennington who singled in two runs, Sam Balzano grounded out to third base and Kendall Patrick scored. Nick Lovullo singled in Pennington completing a 4 run inning on 3 hits.

The Mainers added 1 more in the 7th and 3 more in the 8th to stretch their lead to 10-5. Cody Dube worked two-thirds of an inning allowing 1 run and 2 strike-outs, John Nicklas came on for two-thirds of an inning as well walking two batters, not allowing a run, same for Jonathan Chudy with 2 strikeouts and Mike Bunal finished out the game after walking the bases loaded working his way out of the jam with a ground out back to Bunal for the 10-5 victory.

Caden Bailey pinch hit and worked a walk; all-in total the Mainers earned 11 walks on the night. Walker Pennington finished his day 3 for 5 with 3 RBI's, Sam Balzano went 1 for 2 with a sac bunt RBI, Lovullo went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and 3 walks, Matt Pagano finished 1 for 4 with 2 RBI and 1 walk. Corey Raley slammed a 3 run home run to right field stretching the lead to 10-5 in the 8th inning.

The Mainers improve to 9-8 on the season the Muskrats fall to 7-10. The Mainers sit a half game up on tomorrow's opponent North Adams (8-8) with second place in the North Division on the line at Joe Wolfe field in North Adams, first pitch at 4:30 pm.
