Keene Swamp Bats News Release
The Keene Swamp Bats broke out of their offensive funk in a big way on Saturday night, crushing the Valley Blue Sox 11-2.
The win improves Keene to 7-10 on the season, while the Blue Sox drops to 6-11.
Swamp Bats starter Matt Blandino (Central Conn State) pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out three. He is 1-1 on the season.
Nick Lewis was charged with the loss for the Blue Sox, dropping to 1-1 on the year. Lewis allowed four runs on seven hits, walked three and struck out five in five plus innings of work.
Keene put up a pair of runs in the top of the third, loading the bases with two outs and Dominic Severino (Central Conn State) helped out his college teammate Blandino with a two-run single.
Brady Sheetz (Hartford) plated Ryan Summers (Louisville) with an RBI single to make it 3-0 Swamp Bats in the fourth.
Keene's big inning would come in the top of the sixth as Summers hit a mammoth solo shot to dead centerfield, the first of five runs in the inning.
The other runs in the frame came on an error charged to Valley second baseman Michael Korte (Lipscomb) that plated Conner Simonetti (Kent State) who had doubled following the solo shot by Summers. Sheetz scored on an RBI groundout by Zach Lauricella (St. John's) and Severino delivered his second two-run single on the night, bringing home Jared Mederos (St. John's) and Taylor Perez (St. Leo).
Three more runs would come across for the Swamp Bats in the eighth to open up an 11-0 lead at the time. Bret Dennis (St. John's) plated Mederos with an RBI single and came around to score on a wild pitch by Blue Sox reliever Henry Van Zant (Bowdoin). Alex Liquori (Kennesaw State) drove in the 11th and final run of the night for Keene with an RBI single that scored Lauricella.
The only two runs of the night for Valley came courtesy of a two-run double by Josh Graham (Oregon) in the home half of the eighth inning.
The Swamp Bats will play the final game of their mini three-game road trip tomorrow as they travel to Old Mountain Field to take on the Ocean State Waves at 6:05. The game is a makeup of the contest that was postponed back on June 9. Eric Lauer (Kent State) will be on the mound for Keene.
