SOUTH KINGSTOWN, Ri. - After a doubleheader sweep yesterday, the Mainers were eyeing their fourth straight win but fell at the hands of Ocean State, 4-3. Sanford battled back from a 3-0 deficit, but a walk-off passed ball gave the Waves the win.

Ocean State jumped out to the early lead in the second as Khyree Miller (Winthrop) scored when the throw down to second skipped into the outfield, 1-0.

Fast forward to the fourth, it was Miller doubling and coming home on the RBI single from Blaine Lidsky (Stonehill). Later in the inning, Lidsky would score as the throw to second was not in time to tag out Max Johnson (Indiana), 3-0.

The Mainers struggled to solve Ocean State starter Cameron Knox (Fordham) until the sixth when they broke through on three straight hits.

A single from Kevin Skagerlind (UMass) and a double from Jayson Kramer (St. John's) put runners on second and third. Then, Adam Dapkewicz (Georgetown) hit a bloop single to right field to score both baserunners, 3-2.

The score remained the same until the eighth when Dapkewicz came up clutch again. The catcher doubled into left-center and allowed Kramer to score from first, 3-3.

Jake Poindexter (Georgia) was stellar in relief with three scoreless innings and struck out three batters as it went to the ninth tied.

In the bottom of the ninth, Creek Robertson (Southern Miss) led off with a double, but back-to-back strikeouts by Brian Craven (William & Mary) made it look like some free baseball was on the way. However, a pair of passed balls allowed Robertson to walk it off.

Tonight's result splits the season series and means the Waves leapfrog the Mainers into the final wild-card spot by half a game.

Sanford will have a quick turnaround for a doubleheader against Vermont in Montpelier. Bryce Afthim (Southern Maine) will be the starter for game one.

The Mountaineers have won every contest so far this year by two runs or less.
