Goodall Park in Sanford, ME. - The Sanford Mainers (16-16) swept the Mystic Schooners (18-14) in a doubleheader thanks to lights-out pitching.
Game 1: Sanford starter Matthew Sapienza (Georgetown) plowed through the Mystic lineup. The right-hander gave up just two hits and three walks in five innings of work. Sapienza earned the win and struck out two batters. A Schooners runner never reached third base while the Sanford pitcher was on the mound.
The Mainers got on the board first in the top of the second inning after a Kevin Skagerlind (Massachusetts Amherst) sacrifice fly. Sanford added to its lead in the fifth thanks to an Aidan Kane (Delaware) single. Once Sapienza exited the game, Mystic took advantage, immediately. A Mason LaPlante (Georgia) double in the sixth proved to be the Schooners' only source of offense in game one.
Sanford's Adam Dapkewicz (Georgetown) and Joey Rezek (East Carolina) were the only two players with multi-hit nights. Mainers closer Brian Craven (William & Mary) earned his fourth save of the season and improved his ERA to 1.10.
Game 2: A Sanford pitcher, like game one, again dominated the Mystic lineup in game two. Mainers starter Ryan Douglas (North Carolina Asheville) went six scoreless innings. The right-hander gave up just three hits and struck out six batters. Douglas seamlessly navigated around two errors by the Sanford defense and a four-walk outing.
The Mainers scored their four runs in back-to-back two-run innings. Sanford jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth following a David Bermudez (Manhattan) sacrifice fly and an RBI double by Devan Bade (Binghamton). The home team tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a Jake Rainess (Maine) triple.
Sanford looks to win its fourth straight when it visits the Ocean State Waves (16-17) today at 6:30 p.m. Mystic returns home to host the Upper Valley Nighthawks (15-18) at 6:30 p.m. as well.

Maxfield Sports Complex in Hartford, Vt.- The Ocean State Waves (16-17) took down the Upper Valley Nighthawks (15-18) with a 5-2 score.
Ocean State snagged all five of their runs in the sixth inning after a quiet first half with hits singles by right fielder Jake Studley (Connecticut), a double by left fielder Peter Ciuffreda (Lafayette), and a triple by first baseman Daniel Baruch (Boston) to highlight the effort for a 5-0 lead. The Nighthawks began to rally in the eighth inning when designated hitter William Sullivan (Troy) smacked a single to center field that brought home shortstop Luca Trigiani (St Josephs) and right fielder Thomas Latham (Cisco JC) to make it 5-2. Upper Valley pitcher Tyler Legere (Lipscomb) gave his team a fighting chance in the ninth when he shut down the Waves but the Nighthawks came up empty-handed as well to end the game 5-2.
Ciuffreda was most efficient at bat as he was 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run and the Waves pitching committee put up a wall against the Nighthawks by only allowing five hits.
The Waves will build on tonight's win as they face the Sanford Mainers (16-16) at home tomorrow at 6:30pm while the Nighthawks look to gain back momentum with a road matchup against the Mystic Schooners (18-14) at 6:30pm.
