Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Maine Red Claws defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce 97-95 on Military Night at the Sioux Falls Arena in front of a patriotic crowd of 4,355. Maine picked up their first-ever win against Sioux Falls, who was outfitted in camouflage uniforms, after dropping two contests earlier this season by an average of 18 points.
Maine jumped out to a seven-point lead halfway through the first quarter but Sioux Falls answered with a 9-2 spurt that tied the game at 17 apiece. Maine built up a 10-point lead in the second quarter but Sioux Falls responded again and only trailed 51-50 at halftime.
Sioux Falls went up 81-74 in the early stages of the fourth quarter following a Michael Joiner 3-pointer but Maine battled back to tie the game at 87 on a putback dunk by Anthony Terrell with just over five minutes to go in the contest. Maurice Ager knocked down a 3-pointer and Tony Bobbitt stole the ball and found Russell Robinson for a wide open lay-up to give the Red Claws a 92-87 lead.
The Skyforce trailed by two points in the final minute but All-Star Reggie Williams made a driving lay-up to tie the game at 95 apiece with 46.4 seconds to go. Maine turned the ball over but Sioux Falls failed to capitalize as Williams missed a driving lay-up with 4.9 seconds remaining in the game. Robinson was fouled as he drove to the basket and calmly knocked down two free throws with 2.0 seconds left to give Maine a slim 97-95 lead. Williams missed a 19-footer at the buzzer that would have forced overtime and Maine came away with a weekend split after falling to Dakota last night.
Darnell Lazare posted his first double-double of the season with 16 points and a season-high 11 rebounds in a reserve role. Bobbitt posted 16 points behind 4-of-5 3-pointers while Ager added 15 points off the bench in only his second game with the Red Claws.
Alexander Johnson had an impressive home debut with a game-high 30 points and nine rebounds. Williams and David Bailey recorded 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Sioux Falls will complete their three-game homestand against Albuquerque on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Maine returns home to host Austin on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
