Magrane brings the pain

Durham NC - RHP Jim Magrane, just up from Montgomery a few hours before game time, shut down the red-hot Red Wings lineup striking out 10 batters over eight innings en route to a 5-1 victory over Rochester on Tuesday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Rochester only mustered five hits, and just one extra-base hit, a double by Erubiel Durazo in the fourth inning. Rodney Nye went 2-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Brent Butler finished 2-3 with a run and two RBI's, and Shawn Riggans went 2-4 with two runs scored.

Magrane (1-0) picked up the win for the Bulls, going eight innings while allowing one run on four hits and a walk to go with his 10 strikeouts. Jeff Ridgway pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing a walk and a hit while striking out one. Jason Miller (2-6) took the loss for Rochester, going six and one-third innings, while allowing four runs on six hits and a walk, while striking out seven.

Durham will wrap up their homestand with a game against Charlotte tomorrow night, as LHP Chris Seddon (8-5) faces RHP Tim Redding (8-8) at 7:00 p.m. at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
