Braves roll past Tides

RICHMOND, VA- The Richmond Braves beat the Norfolk Tides 6-4 Tuesday at The Diamond. Jonathan Schuerholz and Bill McCarthy smacked home runs as the Braves won for the second straight night.

Richmond took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Brayan Pena sacrifice fly. McCarthy hit his sixth home run of the year in the second to make it 2-0. The Tides trimmed the lead to 2-1 in the third on Joe Hietpas' RBI single. The Tides moved in front 3-2 in the fourth on a two run homer by Victor Diaz. Richmond tied the game in the home half on Wes Timmons RBI single. A Tides throwing error in the fifth put Richmond ahead to stay 4-3. Schuerholz two run homer in the sixth stretched the Braves advantage to 6-3. The Tides added a run in the seventh when Rashad Eldridge chased a run home with a double.

Brian O'Connor allowed one earned run in six innings to pick up the win. Wayne Franklin notched a save. Willie Collazo took the loss. Schuerholz, Timmons, and Martin Prado had two hits each for the Braves. Michael Tucker had two hits for the Tides.

The Braves and Tides meet again at The Diamond Wednesday at 7 PM. Daniel Curtis will pitch for the Braves against Yusaku Iriki. For more information please call 359-4444.
