Peoria Rivermen News Release
Despite Peoria Rivermen out-chancing and out-shooting the Milwaukee Admirals, Magnus Hellberg was there to make every stop, as the Rivermen fell to the Admirals 1-0 Sunday afternoon at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Mark Van Guilder scored the game's only goal early in the first period.
Milwaukee earned the game's only score when Cam Reid threw a pass from the left side to Van Guilder on the doorstep, who scored his 11th goal of the season past Mike McKenna at 4:17 in the first period. Victor Bartley also assisted on the play.
Peoria had two opportunities in the first period on the power play. Both Michael Liambas and Taylor Aronson drew interference penalties, but the Rivermen were unable to convert on either opportunity.
The second period was scoreless, but featured three Milwaukee power plays, and man-advantage for the Rivermen. All four attempts were unsuccessful.
In the third period, Peoria came out with a flurry of shots and opportunities.Chris Porter, Evgeny Grachev and Brett Sonne all had prime opportunities denied by Hellberg, who earned his first AHL shutout.
Sergey Andronov picked up a hooking penalty with 1:57 remaining in the game, and the Rivermen were unable to push the puck past Hellberg after pulling McKenna from the ice for an extra attacker.
Peoria went 0-for-3 on the power play as Milwaukee was unsuccessful on all four of their attempts. The Rivermen outshot the Admirals 30-25 in the game.
The Rivermen return to Peoria for a six-game homestand against the Rockford IceHogs on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. All games can be heard on CD Country 107.9 FM or online through www.rivermen.net.
