Houston Aeros News Release
Rockford, IL - The Houston Aeros (24-18-4-3, 55 points) defeated the Rockford IceHogs (22-24-1-1, 46 points) 2-0 on Saturday night in front of 5,164 fans at the BMO Harris Bank Center. Aeros goalie Darcy Kuemper (10-6-0) made a season-high 38 saves for his fourth shutout of the season. Forwards Johan Larsson and David McIntyre took care of the offense, as Houston claimed its fifth road victory in the last six road outings. Rockford goalie Henrik Karlsson (2-2-0) stopped 32 of 34 Houston shots for the loss. Houston will meet the Texas Stars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Cedar Park Center.
Houston opened the scoring late in the first period, striking at 19:52 for the 1-0 lead. Right wing Jason Zucker stole the puck in the Rockford zone, slipping a pass to Johan Larsson. All alone down by the IceHogs crease, Larsson moved a backhand shot past goalie Henrik Karlsson for his 13th goal of the season.
After a scoreless second period, Houston carried a 1-0 lead late into the third period. Defenseman Kyle Medvec made one of the biggest saves of the game with less than six minutes left in regulation. With goalie Darcy Kuemper out of position, Rockford's Martin St. Pierre ripped a wrist shot from the left wing circle. Medvec threw himself in front, blocking the shot and keeping the Hogs scoreless. Houston made it a 2-0 lead at 15:12, as David McIntyre scored his 11th goal of the season. Right wing Justin Fontaine slipped a pass out front for McIntryre, who blasted a one-timer past Karlsson for the two-goal cushion.
Houston continues on an eight-game road trip on Tuesday, Feb. 12 in Texas at 7:30 p.m. CT. The Aeros return home on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7:05 p.m. as Houston hosts Oklahoma City at Toyota Center. The team will celebrate Boy Scout Night by handing out 2012-13 team posters to the first 2,000 fans.
