Madrigal, Pitching Staff Lead Dash in 3-1 Victory

WILMINGTON, Del. - Nick Madrigal stroked a go-ahead hit in the eighth inning on Monday night, and the Dash pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts in a 3-1 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks at Frawley Stadium.

With the Dash (9-10) down 1-0 heading into the eighth, the offense finally broke through against the Blue Rocks (11-8) bullpen. Yeyson Yrizarri singled with one out against Holden Capps (1-1), and JJ Muno was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second.

Tad Ratliff relieved Capps and proceed to walk Tyler Frost to load the bases for Madrigal. On a 1-1 pitch, the former first-round pick smacked a two-run single to center to give Winston-Salem the advantage.

Zach Remillard capped the scoring with an RBI single to right to make it a 3-1 contest.

Blake Battenfield dominated in his second start against Wilmington this season, tossing six innings and allowing just six hits and one unearned run in the fourth inning. Battenfield, who has not allowed an earned run in 13 innings pitched this season against Wilmington, struck out six in the effort.

Alec Hansen (1-0) relieved Battenfield, and he allowed just one hit in two scoreless innings of work en route to a victory. The right-hander struck out five in the effort, including the side in the eighth. In eight innings this season, Hansen has allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out 14 hitters. Meanwhile, Jose Nin earned his first save with the Dash with a scoreless ninth.

The Dash continue their three-game set against the Blue Rocks on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. Dash left-hander Kyle Kubat (2-0, 1.59 ERA) takes the hill in the middle match against Blue Rocks right-hander Jackson Kowar (1-0, 1.80 ERA). Following the Dash's seven-game road trip, the Dash return home for a seven-game homestand beginning on Friday, April 26, against the Frederick Keys. After Friday's game, there will be a postgame fireworks display. Live music and a Chick-fil-A Four Pack Night are on deck for Saturday, followed by a Lowes Foods Family Sunday during the series finale.

The homestand will roll into the following week with a four-game series against Potomac from April 29-May 2, which features a Free Food Monday and a Taco Tuesday. The homestand finale will be a Lowes Foods Thirsty Thursday, a Pups in the Park Night, presented by Handy and Handy Orthodontics, and a Rayados Day.
