Madison Mallards News Release
Mequon, WI - Madison failed to provide their pitching staff with any run support for the second straight night against Green Bay in their 2-1 loss on Friday night.
Madison was off to another slow start offensively on Saturday night at Kapco Park as the team was unable to score until the 5th. Since the 26-run explosion against Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday, Madison has scored just one run in the 4th inning or earlier in their last four contests.
After the Mallards took the 1-0 lead on Nick Williams' second double of the summer, Lakeshore finally got to Jake Hilton after he tossed five scoreless innings in the 6th. A three-run frame on four hits allowed the Chinooks to take their first lead of the afternoon. A two-run single from Joey Spence gave Lakeshore a two-run advantage.
Madison punched right back to take the lead against the Lakeshore bullpen in the 7th. The Mallards would score three in the inning against Lawrence Gallo, charged by a Lakeshore error that was committed on a swing from Keenan Taylor that scored two runs.
The 7th inning surge was all that Madison would need as the Mallards' three relievers threw up zeroes the rest of the way highlighted by Tyler Avery's second save in the second half.
Madison returns to Warner Park tomorrow to play a double-header in two seven-inning ball games against Lakeshore before the All-Star Break that begins Monday. Game one of Sunday's double-header at Warner Park begins at 1:35 P.M. CST.
