New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - Sandy Madera continued his incredible season as well as continuing a magical 2007 for New Jersey. The Jackals designated hitter hit a two run home run un the bottom of the ninth to give the Jackals a 4-3 victory as well as the series victory.
Joel Bennett, the New Jersey legend as well as pitching coach, made his much anticipated 2007 debut and did not disappoint. The seasoned veteran went five strong inning allowing one run on just two hits. All his pitches seemed effortless, assuring Jackals fans that their most dependable starting pitcher is back in full swing as he did not allow a run until the fifth inning.
Not to be outdone, however, the Brockton Rox threw their dependable veteran, John Kelly. Kelly, despite giving up an RBI single to left fielder Jud Thigpen, kept Brockton in a 1-1 time by the time Bennett left the game.
The game stayed tied into the seventh but was broken on back to back two-out doubles by the Rox. Centerfielder Joe Hough looped a liner to right field. Jackal right fielder Francisco Leandro dove to make the play but was only able to trap the ball. Hough alertly dug for second knowing that Leandro was on the ground and made it in standing up. The very next pitched was driven into the gap just passed the diving Thigpen by third baseman Eugene Julien.
The Jackals got the run back thanks to first baseman Clyde Williams' RBI single to right, scoring Leandro.
The Rox took the lead back in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by catcher Jason Radwan. Designated hitter Guye Senjem was intentionally walked before Radwan and Radwan answered by smacking the first pitch he saw to right field.
Both the Jackals and the Rox would go 1-2-3 in their respectful frames following that half inning, leaving New Jersey down 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth.
Leandro, who finished the game 1-4 with a walk and two runs, walked to lead off the inning. He was then bunted over by Thigpen, putting him into scoring position for Madera. Madera delivered by driving a 2-1 pitch well over the wall in left centerfield, giving the Jackals the victory.
Jackals newcomer Hunter Davis earned the win in relief and Rox reliever Ryan Burnau suffered both the loss and the blown save.
