Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Mud Hens were well represented in Omaha on Wednesday night at the 28th Annual First National Bank Triple-A All-Star Game, presented by Gildan. Right-handed starter Buck Farmer, and Shortstop Dixon Machado wore the Toledo colors for the International League as they took on the Pacific Coast League All Stars. The two Mud Hens were not the only Toledo members to be selected to the All-Star game, as Jefry Marte was the third but did not participate due to being called up to Detroit on July 4th.
Farmer, who did not make an appearance in the evening, leads to Hens in wins with a 7-2 record on the season. The Georgia native has also been racking up the strikeouts with his team leading seventy two punchouts. Farmer has also seen time with the big club this year making two spot starts for the Tigers, striking out twelve in 13.2 innings pitched.
The starting shortstop for the International League Wednesday night was Toledo's own Dixon Machado. Making his first All-Star appearance at any level, the twenty-three year old went 1-1 with a walk and a stolen base on the night. Leading off the top of the third, Machado drew a base on balls to get the frame going off Andre Rienzo. Machado also used his speed to swipe second base off Rienzo. In the top of the fifth, Machado capitalized in his second at bat, sending a Tyson Perez offering to left field for a single. The shortstop heads into the second half with a .272 batting average, hitting four home runs with thirty-six RBI in the first half for Toledo.
The result of the game went the International League's way as well. The back and forth battle was capped off in the top of the ninth as the IL all-stars plated three in a come from behind 4-3 victory, as local Toledo native A.J. Achter (ROC) earned the win in relief.
The Mud Hens start the second half of the season Thursday night as the Indianapolis Indians head to town for a four game set. First pitch is set for 7:00 PM.
