M-Braves Win Ninth Straight over Pensacola

PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves scored five first-inning runs en route to a 6-2 victory for the third-consecutive night against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. With the win, the Braves have now won nine straight games against Pensacola, dating back to April 28. Mississippi tries to make it 10-straight Tuesday at 7:00 PM.

Mississippi (21-17, 60-47) scored six runs on 11 hits while Pensacola (14-24, 45-63) plated two runs on nine hits. Kyle Kubtiza drove in three runs via the long ball. Mycal Jones, Daniel Castro, Braeden Schlehuber and Gustavo Nunez all collected two-hit nights at the plate.

The Braves jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first. Jones and Kyle Wren drew back-to-back walks before Kubitza blasted a three-run homer into the Farm Bureau Grill. It was Kubitza's fifth long ball of the season. Castro then doubled with two outs and scored on a Schlehuber singled up the middle. Gustavo Nunez followed with a base hit to put runners at the corners for a Williams Perez RBI-single to center.

Juan Duran led off the fifth with a triple to center field. He scored on a Brodie Greene single to right, cutting the Braves lead to 5-1. Jon Moscot then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Green to second. Yorman Rodriguez followed with a RBI-single to center, making it a 5-2 game.

Mississippi added another run in eighth. Schlehuber singled to left with one out. He then stole second and came in to score on Rich Poythress' pinch-hit double down the right field line, extending the M-Braves lead to 6-2.

Williams Perez (4-6) worked six innings for the M-Braves and picked up the win. He gave up two earned runs on seven hits and a walk while fanning three batters. Ryne Harper (H, 8) worked two scoreless frames and John Cornely recorded the final three outs.

Jon Moscot (5-10) also went six frames for the Blue Wahoos. He gave up five earned runs on eight hits, a homer and two walks. Moscot struck out four.

In game four of this five-game series, M-Braves right-hander Ryan Weber (3-4, 4.54) counters Blue Wahoos righty Robert Stephenson (5-6, 4.12). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
