BILOXI, MS - The Mississippi Braves (7-12) fell 8-3 to the Biloxi Shuckers (11-8) at MGM Park on Friday night. The series is now even at two games apiece.
The Shuckers took an early lead with a run in each of the first two innings and broke the game open with three runs in the fourth. Freddy Zamora hit two home runs for Biloxi.
In the third, Justin Dean punched a single through the middle of the infield for his first hit with the M-Braves this season. Dean was transferred from Triple-A Gwinnett before the game and has played 178 career games for the M-Braves. Dean went 1-for-4 and showed off his impressive arm by throwing out a tagging runner at second base from center field.
LHP Luis De Avila went 3 2/3 innings in his fourth start of the season. Atlanta's No. 20 prospect gave up five runs, two earned, off six hits and no walks with six strikeouts. The left-hander falls to 0-2 with a 3.14 ERA over 14 1/3 innings pitched. De Avila has eight walks and 20 strikeouts.
Trailing 5-0, Andrew Moritz put the M-Braves on the board with an opposite-field solo shot to make it 5-1 in the sixth inning. Moritz went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, his first homer of the season. The outfielder is batting .316 in 11 games.
RHP Miguel Peña shined in relief, going 2 1/3 shutout innings and allowing one hit with one strikeout. The right-hander was promoted from High-A Rome last week and made his third appearance for the M-Braves.
The M-Braves pulled within three runs on an RBI groundout from Cal Conley in the eighth, but Biloxi answered with two homers and three runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 8-2.
Drew Lugbauer smashed his second double of the game off the center field wall to score a run in the final inning. Lugbauer has three home runs, four doubles and seven RBI in 15 games.
The M-Braves collected 11 hits and left six runners stranded.
The fifth game of the series is on Saturday at MGM Park. LHP Domingo Robles (1-1, 3.38) will make the start for Mississippi against LHP Adam Seminaris (1-2, 5.93) for Biloxi. The first pitch is at 6:05 pm CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
