Mississippi Braves News Release

Pearl, MS - The Montgomery Biscuits scored early and often, posting the first 12 runs on Wednesday afternoon at Trustmark Park, downing the Mississippi Braves 17-2 to take the series.

Thanks to three runs in the first inning and six runs in the third, Montgomery (8-12) took a 9-0 lead early and would never look back.

Five pitchers took the hill for the Braves (6-14) on the afternoon. Tim Gustafson (0-1) suffered the loss, going just 2.1 innings for seven hits and seven earned runs.

Shane Dyer (1-0) picked up the win for the Biscuits, tossing 6.1 innings. He held Mississippi scoreless on just two hits through six innings, but he got into some trouble in the seventh, allowing three hits for the Braves' only two runs of the day.

At the plate, Donnell Linares was the only Brave with multiple hits, scorching two doubles in four trips to the plate. CJ Retherford, meanwhile, went 1-4 with a two-run double in the seventh. John Matulia led the Biscuits' offensive efforts, going 3-for-5 with 5 RBIs.

Retherford also saw time on the mound for the Braves, pitching the ninth inning in relief. It was the first time he had taken the hill since the 2008 season as a member of the White Sox organization.

The Braves continue their 10-game home stand on Thursday night as they open a series against the Huntsville Stars (13-6). Right-hander Randall Delgado (1-1, 1.71 ERA) takes the mound for Mississippi. The Stars were rained out on Wednesday, so their rotation is to be announced.
