Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (36-50) edged out their in-state rival, the Biloxi Shuckers (48-37) 3-2 in the series finale at Trustmark Park on Saturday night. After falling to the Shuckers on Friday night, the M-Braves bounced back on Saturday to capture the series victory. M-Braves center fielder, Connor Lien proved to be the hero of the game after delivering a go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning. On the night, Lien went 1-for-3 at the plate with a 2B, 2 RBI, and a BB.

Biloxi's Troy Stokes Jr. started the scoring early as he hammered a two-run home run over the left center field wall in just the second at-bat of the game to put the Shuckers up 2-0 in the top of the first inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Daniel Lockhart manufactured the M-Braves first run of the game after belting a solo home run deep over the right field wall, cutting the scoring deficit to one run.

The M-Braves trailed the entire game until the bottom of the eighth inning when Connor Lien delivered a line drive two-run double to left field, scoring both Luis Marte and Brandon Downes to give the M-Braves a 3-2 lead. For the M-Braves, Saturday night was the first time that the 2018 squad has rallied for a win after trailing for seven or more innings.

Mississippi will now pack their bags and travel to Birmingham, Alabama for a four-game series against the Birmingham Barons beginning on Sunday, July 8 at 6:00 p.m. (CST.)
