Birmingham Barons News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - In another low-scoring affair, the Birmingham Barons (41-43) couldn't make the key plays they? needed to late as the Chattanooga Lookouts (41-44) walked off for a 3-2 win on Saturday night at AT&T Field. The win gives the Lookouts a series split while the Barons finish the season series victorious, winning 10 of 18 games over their North division foes.
Turning Point: In his second inning of relief, Barons reliever Colton Turner (L, 5-2) couldn't send the game to extra innings. Luis Arraez reached with a one-out single to start the ninth and Brent Rooker followed with a line drive to center for a walk-off double, allowing Arraez to score from first with the winning run.
Moments That Mattered: The Barons jumped out to an early lead as Zack Collins' RBI single scored Luis Basabe in the top of the first. Three innings later, Trey Michalczewski lifted a sacrifice fly to left to score a second run and double the Barons lead. By driving in a run each, Collins and Michalczewski are now tied for the team lead with 42 RBI.
By The Numbers: Making his second appearance with the Barons as part of his MLB rehab assignment, Nicky Delmonico recorded his first hit with a fourth inning single. He then advanced to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a fielder's choice, and scored on Michalczewski's sacrifice fly. Delmonico finished 1-for-2 before Alex Call pinch-hit in the fifth inning and took over in left field.
Facts And Figures: Looking for his third straight quality start, Matt Tomshaw was on the right path until the sixth inning. However, his bid for a win ended there as a two-out, two-run single from Ryan Walker tied the game 2-2, ending the starter's night. Over 5.2 innings, Tomshaw gave up two runs on eight hits with no walks and eight strikeouts. He would not factor in the decision.
Up Next: The Barons return to Regions Field to begin a four-game series against the Mississippi Braves on Sunday night at 6 p.m. Alec Hansen (0-3, 7.71) is set to start for the Barons against the M-Braves' Bryse Wilson (1-5, 5.40). Curt Bloom will have the call on 960 WERC News Radio and the iHeart Radio app.
